Professional Editing Services
My passion for language has always been part of my make-up and I loved teaching English grammar to high school students at Die Hoërskool Menlopark and International School of SA. However, after the birth of my daughter and 8 years of teaching, I traded my red pen for the laptop screen to work as a freelance language practitioner, while also enjoying being a stay-at-home mom. As I have always seen myself as an academic, I thoroughly enjoy editing academic texts. I thrive on identifying and correcting grammatical errors and inconsistencies and I keep up-to-date with the technicalities of correct language usage.
Together with my English major, I obtained my B.IS (Hons) in Information Science from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, after which I completed my PGCSE (FET) through UNISA.
I am a Full Member of the Professional Editors' Guild (PEG) and a member of the South African Translators' Institute (SATI). I enjoy attending courses and workshops to hone my skills to perfection.
Recent workshops include John Linnegar’s course on editing of academic texts, Isabelle Delvare’s workshop on Plain Language and PEG’s refresher course on punctuation by Milton Webber.
My academic editing service includes:
- checking grammar and syntax, spelling, punctuation, consistency, fluency
- shortening long sentences or paragraphs
- making notes where the writing is unclear so that the student can correct the text
- ensuring references match the correct style (e.g. Harvard)
- checking and correcting the list of references.
Proofreading and editing of:
- dissertations
- theses
- assignments
- journal articles
- magazine articles

Documents are sent via email and edited with the Track Changes function in MS Word or proofread on hard copy.
